Why and what is Aikido at Full Circle Yoga?

Answer: Because like Yoga, it is another peaceful path…

Yoga translates as:

To unify mind, body and spirit to be in harmony with all life.

Aikido translates as:

To unify mind, body and spirit to be in harmony with all life.

See any similarities?

Just different paths to the same mountain top.

Notice the philosophy from the founders of each…

                            Patanjali  - The Yoga Sutras

“When the heart is full of kindness which seeks no injury to another, either in act thought or wish, this full love creates an atmosphere of harmony, whose benign power touches with healing all who come within its influence. Peace in the heart radiates peace to other hearts.”

And then…

Morihei Ueshiba – Founder of Aikido

“The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a Spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your own inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster Peace in your own life and then apply the Art of Peace to all that you encounter.”

Full Circle Yoga believes in holding space for people on the non-violence path to inner and outer peace. Connection with others, nourishing our body/mind and spirit and making the world a better place through our practice, on and off the mat.

Aikido is identical. No differences except in outward appearance.

Aikido is non-violent. Did you know it doesn’t use strength or force? That it enters, yields, blends, neutralizes and/or redirects whatever is coming in?  That it accepts everything.  Aikido shows us where we try to force, freeze or collapse inward and ‘take it’ when presented with someone or something coming at us in life, often then remaining in hiding or lashing out becuase we don't know how to create and hold a space of mutual, peaceful resolution. Once we become aware of our tendencies, then we can practice choosing different more peaceful actions for ourselves and others.

Your size and strength (or lack of) don’t matter in Aikido. If you try to use strength, it doesn’t work. If you collapse, it doesn’t work. Imagine finding that neutral calm place and staying there throughout your day, both physically and emotionally.  Any age, any size, and physical condition can train because it deals with your current body and your energy. Your physical shape is just that. It’s about what’s on the inside and how to heal and harmonize that which blocks us and causes suffering in ourselves and others.

There never needs be any conflict because when we walk in harmony we create none and we can help others work past theirs.

We offer several classes for all levels each week. To check the schedule click here. We hope to see you.
