There’s a scene in the film, Waking Life, by Richard Linklater, in which a dead woman is talking…(oh, I should explain that the film is animated and completely fantastical)… talking about what it was like to be alive. She says, “It was a time to become conscious, to give form and coherence to the mystery, and I had been a part of that. It was a gift. Life was raging all around me and every moment was magical. I loved all the people, dealing with all the contradictory impulses - that's what I loved the most, connecting with the people. Read more about In the End by Liz Swan

Author: myaizzolena / Date: 29-03-2016 / Tag: Compass pose, Parvrtta Surya Yantrasana, Yoga, Intuition, Full Circle Yoga

At first navigating through new ventures in life we may feel lost or unsure. We might externally seek a tool for direction and answers, like a compass.  However, yoga teaches us to tap into our intuition and hearts for guidance instead searching outside of ourselves for answers. As we navigate our way through the physical tension of a yoga pose we innately strengthen our internal focus to help guide our way through new adventures and challenges that life always has to offer. Learning to Trust the Intuition Yoga Teaches Us by Gina Matranga

For most of my life I’ve been a Type A people pleaser. My actions were easily dictated by the opinions, wants and needs of others, and I rarely paused to consider what role I really played in the unfolding of these events. I did have my own opinions, but I really tried to make them match up with my friends or those around me to perhaps make them feel more comfortable or validated. I wanted everyone to get along, I wanted everyone to be happy, and I definitely didn’t want to be the cause of someone else’s frustration. The Phoenix by Sophie Cummings

Time is not the healer of everything.  Prior to yoga, I could have spent my whole life searching and never filling the gaping hole in my heart.  When I was 17, my mother died.  My world did it crumble; nothing happened – or at least I thought nothing happened.  My life continued.  I built a fortress around my heart so that I would never have to experience such insurmountable pain again.  What I did not know at the time was when you block out one emotion, you block out everything.  Autopilot took over and I was never fully present.  I was not invested in anything other than soccer.  Soccer w Read more about The Phoenix by Sophie Cummings

Sang is a brave man and yogi with a strong practice on and off the mat. He also is an imperfectly perfect human being who has stumbled along the path as we all do. He chooses to turn to a yogic lifestyle which has helped him combat his addictions that was fueled by his search for a dopamine high. Yoga is my home.  My mat is where I feel the most stillness.  I have been a mental health therapist for 10 years, where I have been a safe haven for others to feel their pain.  I have shared and continue to share their pain with me, as I currently provide mental health services to the Longmont community.   A couple of autumns ago, I felt a pain I have never experienced before. It shook me to my core, left me pale, exhausted, confused, dizzy, scared, and frozen. Read more about Yoga was my Refuge by Emily Karlicek

Pose of the Month: Eight Angle Pose (Astavakrasana)

Author: myaizzolena / Date: 18-09-2015 / Tag: Full Circle Yoga, Yoga, astavakrasana, eight angle pose, pose, asana

Astavakrasana is a pose that is dedicated to the sage Astavakra who, according to the myth, infuriated his father who then cursed him to be born crooked with 8 different body deformities. Eight Angle Pose may resemble the stereotypical contorted looking yoga pose found on the cover of popular yoga magazines. However, due to the beautiful nature of yoga, a pose stems much deeper allowing us to explore our mental flexibility.  The expression of the pose should engage the soul rather than the ego.
